1989 APHA sorrel tobiano mare 15 hands
Sire:
Peppy Joe Tamo
Dam: June Valley
**DECEASED**
Peppy was probably one of the best mares we have ever owned.  My father & I shared her, we both
used her for trails & team penning, and I used her for barrels.  She was always a blast to ride, never
had a bad day, and would do anything asked of her.  Very sure footed in the mountains and boy did
she love working cows!  We just happened on her by chance when my dad went to look at a gelding at
Sand Dunes Ranch in W Richland, and he fell in love with this paint filly instead (she had just turned 3).

Peppy had the best disposition, she would crawl into your pocket if only she'd fit.  She loved being
around people.  Her and I had this little thing where she'd "play buck" on the lunge line - only when I
asked her to.  It was quite funny, actually.  I'd haul her up to the arena, saddle her up and go to
lunging her, give her the cute and she'd buck round and round like a young 2 year old.  I could cue
her back into a lope, and then tell her to buck again and she would.  People would ask me "You're
going to get on THAT?" with a look like I was crazy, and I'd say "Yeppers, she'll be fine".  That would be
right about when I'd cue her to stop, and she'd plant her butt down into the dirt and turn and face me.
I'd call her up to me, take the halter off and hang it on the fence, put her bridle on (a mild snaffle), hop
on and make a mad dash around the arena.  She LOVED to run full tilt and it was a habit to let her
"run it out" before we went to work practicing for barrels.  So there we'd be galloping around the arena,
her on a lose rein with her ears flat back and her mane and tail flying - and tears coming out of my
eyes from the wind.  She'd go til I'd tell her to stop, which I learned not to do until I was prepared.  This
mare had a stop on her like you wouldnt believe.  Sent me flying at least once!  Before you can even
get "Wh.." out of your mouth her butt was in the dirt.  I sure miss being able to ride her!

We had Peppy leased out for a year for breeding and while she was leased she had a beautiful black
tobiano filly sired by Two Eyed Chico.  The filly was sold as soon as she hit the ground, I only got to
see her once (they lived a few hours from us).  However, a couple years ago I went to look at a horse
and it turns out the folks who had him were the same folks that bought the filly!! And they still had her.
I became good friends with them over the years and when we lost Peppy in 2003 to colic, they offered
"Luv" to me at a really good price.  So, I bought her and she came home to me, to take Peppys place
in the herd.  I will never sell her, she's here to stay!

Peppy was a great mare, and I'm very thankful to have her only foal in my broodmare band to keep her
lines going.
